Choosing a packet size

  • The 15-seed packet is ideal for home gardeners or first-time melon growers wanting a few reliable vines. It suits small beds or a sunny section of a raised bed where you can give plants room to sprawl.
  • The 100-seed packet fits larger home gardens, community plots, or small homesteads planning successive plantings. It offers ample seed for staggered sowings to spread the harvest and ensure backups.
  • The 200-seed packet is great for small market growers or CSA trial blocks aiming for consistent yields across multiple beds. Use it to plant multiple successions or to standardize a market row.
  • The 500-seed packet is best for market farms, community gardens, or larger plantings requiring uniform, disease-resistant vines. It supports block plantings and succession schedules for steady, high-volume harvests.
GROWING INSTRUCTIONS

Start Halona Muskmelon seeds indoors 2-3 weeks before the last frost. Use 5 cm peat pots and sow 2-3 seeds per pot. Keep the temperature around 21°C (70°F) for optimal germination. Transplant seedlings outdoors after the last frost, planting them with their peat pots into light, organically rich soil.

Germination occurs within 7-10 days. Once seedlings are established, harden them off by gradually exposing them to outdoor conditions over a week. Transplant them to a sunny garden spot, spacing them adequately to allow for growth.

Water regularly and apply a 10-52-17 fertilizer for the first three weeks to encourage strong growth. These plants thrive in warm climates and are resistant to many diseases, making them easy to care for. Harvest melons when they are firm and uniformly colored.
