GROWING INSTRUCTIONS

Start by sowing tomatillo seeds indoors about 6-8 weeks before the last frost date. Plant the seeds 1/4 inch deep in seed-starting mix and maintain a consistent soil temperature of around 75°F. Keep the soil moist but not waterlogged, and expect germination in about 5-7 days.

Once seedlings reach about 5 inches tall, transplant them into larger pots, burying the stems deeper to encourage strong root growth. Harden off the plants by gradually exposing them to outdoor conditions over a week before transplanting them into the garden. Ensure the night temperatures are consistently above 50°F.

Plant the tomatillos in a sunny spot with well-drained soil, spaced 24-36 inches apart. Water regularly to keep the soil consistently moist, and fertilize with a high-phosphorus solution to encourage fruiting. Harvest when the husks loosen and the fruit turns a vibrant lemon yellow, perfect for making salsas and other culinary dishes.
