  • Unique Physical Traits: Grow to produce perfectly round watermelons with a striking dark green exterior and vibrant red flesh; each fruit weighs approximately 11 lbs at maturity.
  • Optimal Growth Conditions: Ideal for planting in lighter soils; enrich heavy soils with organic matter to enhance growth. Germinates within 7-10 days in warm conditions (21°C/70°F).
  • Prime Harvesting Features: Reaches maturity with a smaller seed cavity for the appearance of a seedless fruit but with the enriching flavor of seeded varieties. Flesh remains succulent and does not overripe quickly.
  • Culinary Enjoyment: Provides a high yield of juicy watermelons perfect for fresh summer salads, desserts, or a healthy snack. Stands out for its sweet taste and excellent texture.
  • Robust Environmental Adaptability: Yields well even in cooler, cloudier conditions; can be protected further with a Garden Blanket to ensure a thriving crop.

Experience the thrill of growing Mambo Watermelon, a variety known for its perfectly round fruits and deep red flesh. These watermelons thrive in cooler climates, making them a versatile choice for many gardeners. With fewer seeds, they offer a near seedless experience without compromising on flavor.

Perfect for summer salads and desserts, Mambo Watermelon is a delightful addition to any garden. Start seeds indoors, harden off, and transplant to well-drained soil in a sunny spot. With regular watering and care, enjoy a bountiful harvest of juicy, sweet watermelons.

Choosing a packet size

  • A 10-seed packet is ideal for home gardeners trialing Mambo or planting a few hills. It’s a good fit for small spaces or container-grown starts to transplant into a sunny bed.
  • The 50-seed packet suits larger home gardens, community plots, or small homesteads wanting multiple hills and succession sowings. It provides enough plants to select the strongest vines and ensure steady harvests.
  • The 100-seed packet is best for market growers, CSAs, or big patches aiming for ample, consistent yields. Great for staggered plantings across several beds or fields to extend the harvest window.
GROWING INSTRUCTIONS

Sow Mambo Watermelon seeds indoors in peat pots 2-3 weeks before the last frost date. Use well-draining soil and maintain a temperature around 70°F. Plant 2-3 seeds per 2-inch pot.

Germination occurs in 7-10 days. Once seedlings have developed a few true leaves, harden them off by gradually exposing them to outdoor conditions over a week. Transplant carefully to avoid root disturbance.

Plant in full sun with well-drained, light soil. Water regularly but avoid waterlogging. Fertilize with a balanced formula. Harvest when the fruit is firm and the underside has a yellowish spot.
